FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Micropigmentation?
Micropigmentation is the depositing of hypoallergenic mineral pigments into the dermal layer of the skin. With an ultra-thin needle and pigment, the shape of the eyebrows, eyes or lips is enhanced. Micropigmentation is also known as permanent make-up or cosmetic tattooing. It is sometimes wrongly confused with cosmetic tattoos (e.g. eyebrow tattoos or eyeliner tattoos). However, the pigments used for permanent make-up are introduced less deeply into the skin layer and have a different composition from tattoo inks. Micropigmentation devices are also more refined than tattoo machines, and the techniques that are used are different.
MICROBLADING & MICROPIGMENTATION
What is microblading?
Microblading is used on eyebrows to create natural crisp hair strokes that mimic the growth of your own eyebrow hairs. Using a very fine configuration of needles, pigments are implanted into the dermal layer of the skin which allows for an extremely natural healed result leaving crisp fine hairs. It is considered to be a form of cosmetic tattooing.
How long does MICROBLADING last?
Microblading allows for less pigment to be implanted, it does have the ability to fade away completely over time. The client’s health, aftercare and skin type does play a role in the longevity of the cosmetic tattoo. Generally within 1-3years a colour boost is recommended.
What is the difference between MICROBLADING and MICROPIGMENTATION brows?
Shaded/solid brows are far more saturated than micro bladed brows and can lasts up to 5-10 years. Shaded brows have a more solid bold look and can be done for clients who desires a more dramatic look or who are not suited for hair strokes. Whereas microblading gives you a softer and more natural look.
How long does the procedure take?
The initial procedure can take up to an hour and a half with time spent on consulting about colour, shape and desired overall look. 30 minutes of this time will be spent on anaesthetic to numb the area before proceeding to make it as comfortable as possible
How do you choose a shape for my face?
During our consultation I will study the symmetry and proportions of your face. I will then draw a shape according to your exact needs and facial structure, then measure the shape that has been drawn to ensure balance and harmony which compliments all your facial features. After you have agreed upon the shape and colour , only then will we start the procedure
Will my own hairs be shaved/waxed off?
This is a myth and no such thing will be done. I will however remove any hairs that are out of place to neaten the area. The whole idea is to leave your eyebrows as natural as possible.
Do I need a touch up?
Yes, your first touch up will need to be done 6 weeks after your initial procedure for perfection and durability. Generally after the first touch up a colour boost will need to be done every 1-3 years depending on your own skins retention of pigment. There are occasions when a 3rd touch-up is necessary
Is there any downtime?
Absolutely not! You will still be able to go to work and be seen in public, there is however aftercare instructions that will need to be followed in order for you to get the best results possible.
How will I look directly after the procedure?
The area treated may be slightly red and inflamed which will subside within hours
It will also appear much bolder and darker for the first 7-10 days until the area has fully healed. After healed results the brow will be 20-40% lighter
Is it painful?
Minor discomfort can be expected with every procedure but a very high quality anaesthetic is used in every procedure to help ease discomfort. The procedure itself is also very quick and allows for little to no pain during the procedure depending on clients own pain threshold. Generally the first pass will be felt but after that a secondary anaesthetic is applied to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
Is it safe?
We work according to strict guidelines for proper infection control every procedure is 100% safe. I use a new unopened disposable sterilized needle for each client and all implements and tools are sterilized before and after each procedure.
How permanent is it?
The microblading technique is still a form of cosmetic tattooing which means it does reach the dermal layer of your skin, it is however possible for it to fade away completely over time depending on skin type and overall health. There is far less pigment implanted into the skin as the conventional solid eyebrow technique. Touch ups/colour boosts are recommended for the longevity of the eyebrow.
How do you choose a colour for me?
We work according to your skins undertone and overtone to match the colour exactly. I also look at your eyebrow hairs natural colour and work accordingly.
Can I have my old permanent makeup that was done somewhere else corrected?
It can be corrected but in most cases will need more than one touch up. Tattoo removal is highly recommended for best results. This will be charged at an extra cost according to how much work will be needed. A High Definition picture must be sent to advice on whether the eyebrow can be corrected or must be removed. This will avoid any disappointment.
Can I be pregnant or lactating when having the procedure?
I always recommend that a pregnant/lactating women who wish to have this procedure done, that it is best to get her doctors consent prior to the procedure and that a doctor’s note must be brought with on the day of procedure to ensure that all safety precautions have been taken.
What if I don’t like it?
We will never proceed without showing the client the shape and colour chosen making the client as much involved as we are. We do however recommend that you must understand that for the first 7-10 days the treated area will be much darker and much more bold than the healed result, this is called the healing phase of all permanent makeup and cannot be avoided. As soon as it is healed it will appear much lighter and far more natural. If at all you do not like it after that it can fade away completely over time or removal can be considered.
How long does it take to heal?
For eyebrows it generally takes between 7-14 days to heal, this will depend on your overall health and heal rate. In this time aftercare instructions will need to be followed religiously.
All cosmetic procedures take between 30-60 days for true colour to show
Will I be able to swim, exercise or shower?
For the first 10-14 days these activities need to be avoided at all costs.
Any direct contact with water will affect the healed result and pigment will be lost. Aftercare is far more important to me to ensure the best result possible. If you are planning on going on a vacation to the beach, the procedure must be done at least 4- 6 weeks before
Can I have this procedure done if I am diabetic?
Normally it is not recommended for diabetic patients to have this procedure done and approval from your doctor will be needed
